Furniture in a lake community works harder than furniture anywhere else. Between Memorial Day and October a Waterford sofa absorbs sunscreen, lake water, damp towels, sand and whatever the dog brings in off the dock — and then it sits through a Michigan winter with the windows closed. Most of it has never been professionally cleaned.
The Master's Touch Cleaning has been cleaning Waterford upholstery since 2002. We identify the fabric before we start, because the extraction that a heavy synthetic weave needs would ruin a linen blend, and most of the damage we get called in to fix was done by someone using the wrong method with good intentions.
Sofas, sectionals and recliners
We test the fabric, check colorfastness in a hidden area, then clean with the method that suits it — truck-mounted hot water extraction on durable weaves, gentle low-moisture cleaning on delicate ones. Cushions are cleaned on both sides, crevices and the recliner or sleeper mechanism area get attention because that is where the soil collects, and nothing is left over-wet. Most pieces are ready to sit on again in 2-4 hours.
Pet odor, treated at the source
Masking products work for about a week. We use enzyme-based treatments that break the source material down chemically, so the smell does not come back when the humidity rises. If contamination has gone through the cushion into the frame we will tell you before we start rather than after — some pieces cannot be saved and you deserve to know that before you pay for a cleaning.
Mattresses
You spend a third of your life on your mattress and it collects dust mites, skin cells, sweat and allergens for years. Vacuuming does not remove any of that. Extraction does, and in any household with allergies or asthma it is one of the most noticeable single improvements we can make.
Fabric protection
After cleaning we can apply a fabric protector that keeps the next spill sitting on the surface long enough to blot instead of soaking straight into the fibers. On a light-colored sofa in a house with kids, dogs and a lake fifty feet away, it pays for itself.
Frequently Asked Questions — Waterford
How long before I can use the furniture again?
Typically 2-4 hours, depending on the fabric and the airflow in the room. We do not over-wet, which is what makes the difference between hours and a full day.
Can you clean a sectional or a sleeper sofa?
Yes — sectionals, sleepers, recliners, dining chairs, headboards and mattresses. Sleepers and recliners get extra attention around the mechanism where soil and odor collect.
Will cleaning shrink or damage my upholstery?
Not when the method matches the fabric. We identify the material and test colorfastness in an inconspicuous spot before we begin. Where a fabric will not tolerate extraction we use a low-moisture process instead.
Do you clean leather?
We focus on fabric upholstery. Call (888) 457-9155 and describe what you have — we will tell you honestly whether it is a job for us.
How often should upholstery be cleaned?
Every 12 to 24 months for most homes, closer to annually with pets, allergies or heavy use. Around the lakes we would lean toward annually.
